82-Year-Old Man Arrested for Shooting Red Ryder BB Gun at House
Richard Curtis Moyer, 82, was arrested on Friday and charged with firing a weapon into a dwelling.
The victim was sitting inside while his kids were playing in their backyard. The victim told police he heard a “loud crack” and went outside to find Moyer holding a Red Ryder BB gun.
The victim asked Moyer if he fired a shot, and Moyer responded, “I’ll blow that back window up unless those kids don’t shut up.”
Alachua County Sheriff’s Office (ACSO) Deputy Brandon Dolan observed surveillance footage where he could hear the sound of the BB pellet hitting the victim’s window.
Moyer reportedly told Dolan he fired the shot because “he wanted the victim’s children to stop yelling.”
Dolan reported, “The fence that separates the backyards is approximately six feet high from the ground. The approximate trajectory would have placed the projectile striking at chest to head level…. The defendant wantonly, maliciously shot at an occupied dwelling, which would produce great bodily harm."
Moyer was released on recognizance under the conditions that he not contact the victim, maintain an alternate residence from the victim, and not possess any weapons.
