Alachua Man Released on Recognizance After Arrest for Domestic Battery and Hindering Police Communications

Shawn Devon Steward, 20, was arrested on Sunday and charged with domestic battery and hindering police communications. 

Steward reportedly looked through the victim’s phone, leading to an altercation where he grabbed her and threw her to the ground. 

The victim grabbed a brick to defend herself but did not hit Steward with it. 

The victim attempted to call 911, but Steward reportedly took her phone to prevent her from speaking with police. 

Steward still had the victim’s phone when the Alachua Police Department arrived on the scene. 

Steward was released on recognizance and has been ordered to not contact the victim or possess any weapons.
