Demetrious Lumar Perry, 19, was arrested Thursday afternoon on a warrant for domestic battery by strangulation.

Gainesville Police Department (GPD) Officer Robert “Bobby” White (The Basketball Cop) responded to the incident after 911 dispatchers heard Perry hitting the victim.

White arrived at the location to discover it was a multi-unit Airbnb. One of the guests told White she heard a male voice tell the victim to not break his phone, followed by slamming.

After looking around the property, White found the victim sitting on a bench in the back.

The victim told White that she and Perry were play-fighting but it escalated when Perry knocked her phone out of her hand. The victim tried to grab Perry’s phone, and Perry reportedly choked her for ten seconds, nearly causing her to lose consciousness. A few moments later, the victim was on her phone while on the floor, and Perry kicked her in the head.

The victim had visible injuries to her neck.

White attempted to call Perry, but he didn’t respond. Police attempted to contact Perry at his house, but nobody answered the door.

White’s partner, Officer Brianna Zayas-Pabst, gave the victim two brochures relating to domestic violence and victims’s rights.

Perry was released on a $30,000 bond. He’s been ordered to not contact the victim or possess any weapons.
