Javon Reshard Myhand, 32, was arrested on February 8 on a warrant for sexual battery.

Myhand and the victim previously had consensual sex. On previous occasions, Myhand asked the victim if he could perform a specific sexual act with her, and she declined every time.

In the early morning of December 24, 2024, while engaged in consensual sex, Myhand initiated the act that the victim previously declined, making it rape. The victim made verbal and physical attempts to stop Myhand, but he continued.

On the afternoon of December 24, 2024, Gainesville Police Department (GPD) Sergeant John Pandak located Myhand at the location where the rape occurred. Myhand blamed the victim, stating she was “flipping out.” Myhand repeatedly claimed he and the victim had consensual sex.

Myhand invited Pandak into the room, where he observed an open condom wrapper. Pandak asked where the condom was located. Myhand replied that it was in the trash can.

Pandak asked how many trash cans were in the room. Myhand replied, “Two of them… I hope she ain’t trying to say I raped her or anything.”

Despite Pandak responding to the incident on December 24, 2024, a warrant wasn’t issued until February 5, 2025.

On January 13, 2025, Myhand was arrested and charged with possessing a firearm as a convicted felon, and was released on a $50,000 bond a few days later.

On January 27, 2025, Myhand was arrested again and charged with driving with a suspended license and failing to obey police, but he posted a $500 bond.
