Convicted Rapist Arrested for Assaulting Woman with Machete at Rosa Parks Bus Station
Terry Jones, 69, was arrested Thursday night and charged with cyberstalking and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
In front of a witness, Jones approached the victim with a machete at Rosa Parks Bus Station. The victim retreated, and Jones left the scene in his vehicle.
The victim told police Jones has been stalking her due to wanting a relationship with her. She said Jones repeatedly calls and texts her and has followed her in his vehicle or waited at places he knows she’ll be.
Gainesville Police Department (GPD) officers went to Jones’ house, and he wasn’t there. Police contacted Jones by phone, and he agreed to meet them at his residence. Jones was arrested when he arrived.
Jones claimed the victim was his “girlfriend” and said the machete was “a piece of a dull wood stick that was small in size.” Jones said police would see the machete was a piece of wood if they went back to the scene because he dropped it.
Jones was convicted of rape out of Miami-Dade County in 1972 and sentenced to 47 years in prison. He was released in 2018.
Jones’ bond is set at $450,000.
