Elderly Man Arrested for Domestic Battery

Anthony Gary Smalls, 66, was arrested on Thursday and charged with domestic battery by a repeat offender. 

The victim told police she was talking with a relative on the phone about an incident that occurred between Smalls and another family member. Smalls overheard the conversation and reportedly hit her in the face. 

The victim told police she was unsure if Smalls slapped her or punched her. The victim had a visibly bloody mouth from Smalls’ attack. 

Smalls’ arrest report states the Gainesville Police Department (GPD) had responded to the residence on two previous occasions that evening “in reference to disturbances.” 

Smalls told police that after they left, he overheard the victim “having a conversation with someone on the phone when [she] emerged from the bedroom with a bloodied lip.” Smalls stated he “did not touch” the victim and that he didn’t know why her lip was bloody. 

In 2003, Smalls was convicted of two counts of battery.  

In 2010, Smalls was convicted of domestic battery.  

Smalls’ bond is set at $45,000.
