Gainesville Man Arrested For Dating Violence & Obstruction
John Willis, 26, was arrested last week and charged with obstructing justice and battery (dating violence).
The arrest report states Willis walked aggressively toward his girlfriend of six months, causing her to call the police on him.
Willis reportedly grabbed the victim’s phone, made a comment about her “calling 12” on him, and hung up the phone. Willis pushed the victim down using her backpack. The victim asked a neighbor to call for her sister to pick her up.
A witness saw Willis pushing his weight onto the victim and choking her.
The victim confirmed the witness' account but reportedly told police that her breathing wasn’t obstructed. The victim said Willis had strangled her in the past.
Willis told police he didn’t throw the victim to the ground but did admit to snatching her phone. Willis claimed he grabbed the victim by her pants to “put her phone in her waistband.”
Willis was released on a bond of $7,500.
