Elijah Johnson, 33, was arrested Wednesday night and charged with false imprisonment and domestic battery by strangulation.

Johnson was at the victim’s apartment while she was out of the house. The victim texted Johnson that she believed he was cheating on her.

The victim asked Johnson to leave her residence when she returned. Johnson reportedly pushed the victim on the ground, got on top of her, and placed his hand around her throat.

The victim repeatedly told Johnson to get off her and began scratching his stomach in self-defense.

Johnson reportedly fled the scene after the victim began physically defending herself. The victim had visible injuries on her arm, thigh and neck/chest area.

Johnson told police the victim was throwing things at him and broke his phone. Johnson stated he pushed the victim into her room and the victim locked the door. Johnson claimed the victim exited the room and got on top of him.

Johnson had a small cut on his abdomen, which coincides with the victim stating she scratched him on the stomach to defend herself.

Johnson’s bond is set at $100,000.

Johnson’s first appearance order states he’s been at the University of Florida for two years, but it's presently unclear what his affiliation to the college is.
