Gainesville Man Arrested for Eye Jabbing

Frederick Jermaine McGrew, 22, was arrested last week and charged with aggravated battery.
During an argument, McGrew reportedly yelled at the victim and jabbed his fingers in her face repeatedly. During the jabbing, McGrew poked the victim in the eye causing her blood vessel to burst. The victim reportedly hit McGrew with a phone in self defense.
The victim attempted to leave the house and McGrew followed her outside. When the victim had her back turned, McGrew reportedly hit her in the back of the head, causing her to fall to the ground.
The victim was able to get up and drove away from the scene.
Gainesville Police Department Officer Corey Coppola reported that McGrew “admitted to jabbing the victim with his hand in her face near her eye, and pushing her after being hit with the phone.” McGrew denied striking the victim.
The victim went to the hospital for treatment to the trauma her eye sustained.
McGrew’s bond is set at $10,000.
