Gainesville Man Arrested for False Imprisonment and Aggravated Battery

Shawn Austin Gonzalez, 28, was arrested on Friday and charged with false imprisonment and aggravated battery. 

During an argument, Gonzalez reportedly pushed the victim on a bed and held her down. After releasing her, the victim attempted to leave the room so she could call the police, but Gonzalez used his body to block her. Gonzalez only stopped after realizing the victim’s phone was in the same room as them. 

Gonzalez told police the victim “charged at him” and that he “gently placed [her] on the bed in self-defense.” 

A witness told police the victim did not charge at Gonzalez and that she saw him place her on the bed and prevent her from leaving. 

Gonzalez’s bond is set at $80,000.
