Gainesville Man Arrested for Simple Assault and Battery

Shawn Tyler Pugh, 35, was arrested on Tuesday and charged with simple assault and battery. 

The two victims returned home in the early morning, and Pugh made sexual comments towards Vic2.

Vic1 told Pugh he needed to leave. After a verbal altercation, Pugh stood up and raised a fist at Vic1. 

Pugh began to yell at Vic1 before directing his attention at Vic2. Pugh shoved Vic2, causing her to fall and hit her head on the wall.

Pugh told police he was being “harassed” by Vic1 and stated he “never raised a hand toward [her].”

Pugh claimed Vic2 was “rushing at [him] in an aggressive manner, prompting him to raise [his] hand in a ‘stiff arm’ fashion in self-defense.”

Vic2 had injuries consistent with her statement.

Pugh’s bond is set at $4,000.
