Gainesville Man Arrested for Threats Wile Holding Gun

Michael Avery Hooks, 33, was arrested on April 4 and charged with domestic battery and aggravated assault. 

The victim told police that she and Hooks were arguing when he told her to get out of their room. When the victim was exiting, Hooks reportedly grabbed her by the arms and began slinging her around the hallway. Hooks then reportedly armed himself with a shotgun and pointed it at the victim and stated, “I’ll kill you and your brother.” 

A witness told police she saw Hooks point the gun and heard him yell that he would kill her and her brother. 

Hooks told police “he never had a gun at all” and that his “family members were lying on him.” 

Officers reportedly located the shotgun described by the victim in the laundry room of the residence. 

The State Attorney’s Office filed a pretrial detention motion on Hooks, which was granted by Judge Denise Ferrero on April 9.
