Gainesville Man Facing Aggravated Domestic Assault Charge Released After Bond Reduction Motion

Jonathon Andrew Dewees, 20, was arrested on March 1 and charged with aggravated domestic assault with a deadly weapon.
Gainesville Police Department Officer Cody Meshes reports that Dewees “brandished the handgun towards the victim while she was in the room with him.”
Meshes reports, “[Dewees] stated he grabbed the handgun off his nightstand when the victim was in the room during their verbal altercation where [she] was asking him to stay at a different residence that night. [Dewees] stated the victim was in the room with him when he raised the gun but did not point it towards her. [Dewees] stated he then placed the handgun in his lockbox after the victim ran out of the room. When asked why he grabbed the handgun he could not explain why he did so.”
Dewees gave police a key to the lockbox where they found the handgun.

Dewees bond was originally set at $50,000; however, on March 10 he made a motion to reduce his bond. The motion states Dewees “is indigent and cannot post the present bond…. Has no prior criminal history…. Will reside with his mother and stepfather at [their house] in Keystone Heights…. [and] is employed by Sky Frog Tree Service and has worked there full-time since August 2024."
Judge David Kreider granted the motion and reduced Dewees’ bond to $10,000. Dewees posted the bond and was released shortly after.
Dewees has been ordered to not contact the victim or possess any weapons
