On Saturday, the Gainesville Police Department (GPD) arrested Nathanael Benjamin Johnson, 27, and charged him with one count of simple battery.

The arrest report states Johnson and the victim “got into an argument over infidelity and car keys” before he punched her in the head.

The victim took her car keys from Johnson and began driving to her house.

GPD Officer Janakir Farner reported that Johnson followed the victim on foot but neglected to explain how he kept up with the moving vehicle.

Farner reports that the victim and Johnson continued arguing at her house. Johnson reportedly hit the victim multiple times and shoved her to the ground when she attempted to leave.

The victim had physical injuries on her face and chest.

Farner reported that Johnson “admitted to pushing the victim to the ground as he and the victim were both heading towards the vehicle, but [he] stated that he only used his elbow to move the victim out of the way.”

Johnson was released on a $5,000 bond.

In June 2020, Johnson was arrested and charged with domestic battery. The charges were dropped shortly after Johnson’s arrest; however, he was convicted for violating a no-contact order with the victim.
