On Thursday and Friday the Gainesville Police Department published press releases on the arrests of Jessie James Butler and Daniel Reginald Hanna on their Facebook account

The press release on Butler states the following:

“On Tuesday, April 8, 2025, the Gainesville Police Department Detective Montague, with the assistance and facilitation of the Alachua Police Department, arrested Jessie James Butler (W/M, 09-08-1989). The investigation, which led to this arrest, began after GPD received a CyberTip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC). The CyberTip indicated that a Microsoft Bing user uploaded an image of child sexual abuse to their platform.
Further investigation by Detective Montague, of the Gainesville Police Department, revealed that the subject likely responsible for the incident was Butler who resides at 444 NW 29th Ave in Gainesville, FL. During initial contact with Butler on March 27, 2025, he stated that he wasn’t into “child pornography” but was into “furry porn.” On March 27, 2025, all of Butler’s electronic devices were seized, and no arrest was made, as he became very uncooperative with the investigation and no evidence was found on scene.
A subsequent and off-site search of Butler’s electronic devices has not yet located any images of child sexual abuse material. However, one of his devices maintained an internet search of “underage content” which was conducted approximately 15 minutes after the original Microsoft Bing search upload. Butler’s electronic devices did reveal that he was in possession of 158 images of bestiality (sexual activity between an animal and a human) and as a result he was charged with 12 counts of Possession of Sexual Activities Involving Animals.”

The press release on Hanna states the following:

“On April 8, 2025, Gainesville Police Department Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Detective Donna Montague, with the assistance of GPD Patrol, arrested Daniel R Hanna (W/M, 05-30-1987). The investigation, which led to this arrest, began after GPD received a CyberTip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) in early 2024. The CyberTip indicated that a user of a cloud storage service uploaded and shared images of child sexual abuse from their platform.
Further investigation by Detective Montague revealed that the subject likely responsible for the incident was Hanna who resides at 110 NW 39th Ave, Apt 124A in Gainesville, FL. On March 13, 2025, a search warrant was served at Hanna’s residence. During initial contact with Hanna, he confirmed a number of identifiers associated with the suspect account. When the details of the NCMEC CyberTip were explained to him he stated that he would like to have an attorney present. Hanna immediately left the area on foot and was never seen again that day.
A search of Hanna’s residence revealed numerous electronic devices and a child-like sex doll torso (from the middle of the abdomen to the upper to mid-thigh), that had children’s (female) size six underwear on it, along with other pairs of children’s underwear.
On at least two of Hanna`s devices child sexual abuse material (child pornography) was located. Forensic analysis revealed over 2,550 images/videos of child sexual abuse material in total. The content of abuse material included that of bestiality, pubescent children, and prepubescent children, some of which included BDSM and violence against the children.
Hanna was arrested and charged with 12 counts of Possession of Child Pornography and 2 counts of Possession of Sexual Activities Involving Animals.”

Both press releases state “The Gainesville Police Department wants parents to be aware that children are being solicited and exploited through social networking and messaging apps. We encourage parents to have age appropriate conversations with their children about the dangers of the internet. Please be vigilant and aware of any social networking platforms your children may access.  If you have any questions about this incident, please contact GPD Detective Donna Montague at: 352-393-7730 or montagueda@cityofgainesville.org”
