GPD Uploads Press Release on Westwood Middle School Gun Possession Incident

The Gainesville Police Department uploaded the following press release on a gun possession incident at Westwood Middle School:

On Tuesday, January 21st, a Westwood Middie School student was arrested by Gainesville Police Department officers after bringing a loaded firearm onto campus.

The investigation began after a tip to school staff stated a student was carrying a handgun in his backpack. The tip was then provided to the School Resource Officer who intercepted the student. The SRO immediately detained the student and school staff searched the student's backpack.

The search of the student's backpack revealed a loaded handgun.

The student was arrested and was charged with of carrying a concealed firearm and possession of a firearm on school property.
