High Springs Man Arrested for Battering Mother to Steal Paperwork
Brendan Elijah Schwing, 43, was arrested on Monday and charged with battery with a prior battery conviction.
The victim told police that she went into her son’s truck to retrieve some of her personal documents that he took from her. After getting the paperwork, Schwing reportedly grabbed the victim by her arms to steal the documents back.
Alachua County Sheriff’s Office Deputy James Adler reported that Schwing “denied grabbing the victim, but did state he retrieved items from her vehicle.”
In 2001, Schwing was found guilty and convicted of burglary of a structure, battery on a law enforcement officer and attempting to elude a police officer.
In 2020, Schwing was found guilty and convicted of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without intent to kill. The sworn complaint by Alachua Police Department Officer Charles Lee reads as follows:
“The victim and the defendant were both present at the incident location. [The victim (VIC)] stated that Brendan Schwing drove to his work location and began cursing at him. VIC said that Schwing accused him of sleeping with his ex-girlfriend and hiding his kids from him. VIC said Schwing wanted to fight, but he declined. VIC said Schwing retrieved a machete from his black F150 pickup truck and began to chase him around the construction site. VIC said no physical confrontation occurred, and Schwing left the area. No injuries were observed or reported during my investigation.”
According to Schwing’s first appearance order, he is a self-employed electrician.
Schwing’s bond is set at $10,000.
