High Springs Man Chases Stalking Victim Across E. University Ave
Jerel Ramirez, 38, was arrested last week and charged with a DUI, aggravated battery and aggravated stalking.
Ramirez approached the victim’s place of work in Gainesville in his white Optima. Ramierz began following the victim by car as she left in her vehicle. Ramirez intentionally rammed into the victim’s vehicle near University Ave.
In fear for her life, the victim began speeding on University Ave to get away from Ramirez.
Ramirez matched the victim’s high rate of speed following her across E. University.
The victim eventually had to slow down for a red light and Ramirez rear ended her vehicle at a high rate of speed. Ramizerz’s actions caused the victim to crash into a city light pole and completely knock it down.
GnvInfo asked City of Gainesville communications if they knew the estimated damage cost or if they'd be pressing charges for property damage. The message was forwarded to Gainesville Regional Utilities (GRU) public relations.
David Warm with GRU Communications stated "We replaced a 35-foot wood light pole. The person deemed responsible by the law enforcement officer’s report will be [held] responsible."
