Judge Denies Pretrial Detention For Alleged Rapist

On July 18, Judge David Kreider denied the State Attorney’s Office‘s motion for pretrial detention against alleged rapist Michael Lee Hansen.

According to Hansen’s arrest report, Hansen and the victim met somewhere around Gainesville on July 12, the day prior to the rape.

Hansen, who is a homeless man staying at Grace Marketplace, coerced the victim using drugs and asked her to follow him into the woods behind the shelter.

Hansen also told the victim sometime before going into the woods that he had a gun in his backpack and that one time he had to be careful it didn’t “go off.”

After going into the woods, Hansen raped her, and the next day the victim reported him to an employee at Grace Marketplace. Hansen was arrested later in the afternoon.

The incident/investigation report says Hansen was resistant during his arrest; however, resisting arrest was not one of his charges.

Hansen was charged with sexual battery.

Hansen was identified by the victim in a 6-person photo lineup.

Hansen was given a bond of $150,000. As of this writing, he is still in jail. This page will be updated if he’s released.
