Man Arrested by GPD K-9 Officer for Violating Probation in Battery Case
Deantre Charles Eugene Sledge, 24, was arrested on Wednesday and charged with resisting an officer without violence and violating his probation.
In 2022, Sledge was granted a withheld adjudication in a case of aggravated battery against a pregnant victim.
Sledge violated his probation by driving with a suspended license.
Wednesday night, Gainesville Police Department (GPD) K-9 Officer Dylan M. Hayes Morrison responded to an apartment where Sledge was inside.
The owner of the apartment consented to a search.
Morrison reported the following:
“Multiple lawful orders were given for anyone inside the apartment to surrender and come out. [Sledge] ignored all the lawful commands. After three loud and clear commands…. Advising him what would occur if he did not [come out], a police canine was deployed into the apartment. The police canine located [Sledge] hiding in a bedroom closet underneath a blanket and physically apprehended him on his right shoulder. [Sledge] spontaneously stated he was outside and ran inside when law enforcement arrived. He ran inside and hid. He did not think he would be located by a police canine.”
Sledge is not currently eligible for bond.
