Man Arrested Downtown After Punching Girlfriend in Face

Eiyan Chansler Taylor Jr., 21, was arrested on Sunday and charged with domestic battery after punching his girlfriend in the face. 

Around 2 a.m., Taylor and the victim were in a verbal argument about whether or not to leave the area of 1000 W. University Avenue. 

As they were walking, Taylor reportedly punched his partner in the face with a closed fist, causing her to fall to the ground.  

Taylor and the victim began walking away again and were followed by three witnesses who called 911.  The witnesses told police that Taylor had the victim’s shoes and phone and refused to give them back. 

Taylor claimed to police that the victim willingly took her shoes off because she wanted to walk barefoot and that he punched her because she hit him with a shoe. 

Taylor’s bond is set at $10,000. If he’s released, he won’t be permitted to contact the victim.  

Taylor has previous adjunctions for two property crimes and one violent crime.
