Man Arrested For Aggravated Assault After Attempting to Light a Woman on Fire
Troy Butler was arrested near Cora Roberson Park on Wednesday and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without intent to kill; or with an intent to commit a felony.
On May 27, Butler reportedly poured two gallons of gasoline on a woman and attempted to light her on fire. He then chased her down the street while making vulgar threats and attempting to set her on fire.
The arrest report says the victim had “known [Butler] for several years,” but it doesn’t elaborate on their association further. Butler was identified in a photo by the victim.
Butler has 23 misdemeanor adjudications and 12 felony adjudications.
The State Attorney’s Office has filed a motion for pre-trial detention against Butler. He has been given no bond.
