Man Arrested for Attempting to Take Phone and Punching Woman
Cervantes Chandon Betts, 20, was charged on Monday with aggravated battery against a pregnant woman and attempted robbery by sudden snatching.
Betts was arguing with the victim because she told him she didn’t want to be around him due to his arrest warrant for violating his probation in a battery case.
Betts attempted to snatch the victim’s phone out of her hands but couldn't due to her grip on the device. Betts reportedly punched her and shoved the victim to the ground.
The victim reported that Betts had a gun on him but didn’t pull it out during the battering. However, he did place his hand on his gun while walking away.
A witness nearby told police he saw the entire incident.
Betts has other open cases for resisting an officer without violence and battery on a detained person in jail.
Betts doesn’t have a bond set for his probation violation and is ineligible for pretrial release.
