Man Arrested for Battering Victim and Hindering 911 Communications

John Leonard Lee, 57, was arrested on April 8 and charged with false imprisonment, domestic battery, obstructing justice and resisting an officer without violence.
During an argument, Lee reportedly grabbed the victim by the neck and pushed her down.
The victim began contacting 911 and Lee took the phone out of her hand while she was talking to a dispatcher. The line disconnected amid a struggle between Lee and the victim but the dispatcher called back. Lee picked up the phone and told the operator the victim’s call was a “mis-dial.” The dispatcher asked to speak with the victim multiple times and Lee hung up after stating he was outside.
Gainesville Police Department Officer Justin Snitselaar reported. “Upon law enforcement officer (LEO) arrival, [Lee] and the victim were heard in a verbal altercation inside the residence. LEO gave multiple verbal announcements, identified themselves, and gave lawful commands to exit the residence, all of which were ignored. [Lee] was observed by LEO walking throughout the residence, and blocking the door each time the victim began to move towards it. [Lee] physically blocked the front door and told the Vic not to open it. After multiple more lawful commands via voice, and PA system, LEO forced entry…. The victim had slight redness, as well as scratch marks on her neck. The victim had a small laceration on her hand from [Lee] snatching the phone from her.”
Lee claimed that no physical altercation occurred and denied all of the allegations.
Lee’s was released after posting a $20,000 bond.
