Man Arrested for Domestic Battery and Resisting After Argument Over Cheating
Early Friday morning, Richard Carroll Hymes, 35, was arrested and charged with domestic battery and resisting an officer without violence.
According to the arrest report, Hymes hit his child’s mother several times, leaving bruises, destroying things in the house, and going outside to look for a gun.
Alachua County Sheriff’s Office (ACSO) Deputy Tommy White Jr. arrived on the scene and asked Hymes if he had any weapons on him. Hymes reportedly responded that he had a “big attitude” on him.
Hymes was sitting on the trunk of a parked car, and White asked him to get down. Hymes allegedly reached into his pants, causing White to deploy his firearm. Hymes reportedly resisted White’s and a backup officer’s efforts to handcuff him and disobeyed verbal commands.
The victim told officers that she and Hymes were arguing about cheating, and Hymes punched her in the head several times.
Judge Kristine Van Vorst gave Hymes no bond, and he was released on recognizance.
Aside from traffic violations, Hymes has no criminal history.
