Man Arrested for Domestic Battery and Resisting Officer
Chase Rodney Williams, 23, was arrested last week and charged with domestic battery and resisting an officer without violence.
Williams’ arrest report states he punched the victim in the face. Gainesville Police Department Officer Robert “Bobby” White reported that Williams has previously been detained for battering the victim.
White went to arrest Williams, and he ran. Williams was tackled by three officers. White reported that an officer sustained injuries to their knee and hands.
Williams reportedly damaged the GPD patrol car door frame while being transported to jail.
Williams' arrest is in violation of his pretrial release.
In September 2023, Williams was arrested and charged with cannabis possession, resisting an officer without violence, obstructing justice and child neglect. His obstruction and child abuse charges were dropped, but his charges for cannabis possession and resisting have been filed. An article by the Alachua Chronicle states a GPD officer reported that Williams ran away from officers while his child was left unsecured in his car.
Williams first appearance order states he’s been employed at the City of Gainesville for two weeks. However, City of Gainesville Public Information Officer Rossana Passaniti reported that he only applied for a Grounds & Events Workers position and was not hired. Passaniti wrote "He has never been employed by the City of Gainesville."
Williams’ bond is set at $30,000.
