Man Arrested For Threatening Family With Gun
Jerome Jarmaine Chatmon, 33, was arrested on Thursday and charged with two counts of child cruelty and one count of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
Chatmon reportedly put his girlfriend’s special needs child in a headlock, causing her to get in between them. The victim’s mother told Chatmon he was a “lady” for fighting teenagers. Chatmon pushed her and slammed her to the ground.
Chatmon went to his car, grabbed a handgun, and began assaulting the victim and several of their immediate family members. Chatmon reportedly pointed a gun at a minor victim’s head and stated, “I’m ready to die, and you can die too.”
The victims were able to escape by vehicle.
Gainesville Police Department Officer J. Bostick arrived on the scene to find Chatmon standing near the front door. Chatmon stated his gun was "in a safe inside his vehicle."
Chatmon was previously arrested in January and charged with domestic battery by strangulation, but the case was dropped in March. The arrest report states that Chatmon has a long history of alcohol abuse and came back intoxicated from the Veterans Affairs office in Ocala. After the victim told Chatmon she was over it he reportedly strangled her until she nearly lost consciousness.
Chatmon has no bond eligibility, pending a motion of pretrial detention to be heard by Judge Johnathan Ramsey on October 4.
