Man Arrested in Bradford on Alachua County Domestic Battery Warrant
Malcolm Jamal Newby, 38, was booked into the Alachua County Jail yesterday after being charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, domestic battery by strangulation, and battery with a prior conviction.
On the night of March 13, Newby reportedly accused his girlfriend of infidelity, which led to him picking up a spatula and threatening her.
The victim told police Newby always carried a small handgun with him and that he said he was “waiting on the right time” to use it.
Newby’s attacks escalated as the night progressed, reportedly choking the victim and leaving a bruise on her left eye.
An arrest warrant was issued, and Newby was arrested on August 8 in Bradford County.
Newby is eligible for a $150,000 bond on his aggravated assault and domestic battery charges but has been granted no bond eligibility on his charge for battery with a prior conviction.
