Man Motions for Cheaper Bond Following Domestic Battery Arrest
Larry Gaines, 46, was arrested Monday night and charged with domestic battery by strangulation.
Gainesville Police Department Officer Corey Coppola reported that Gaines “intentionally impeded the normal breathing of the victim, against her will, by applying pressure on [her] throat…. After a brief period, [Gaines] released his grip on the victim’s neck, and [she] fled the immediate area. [Gaines] followed the victim until [she] made a phone call from her cell phone to law enforcement and turned and fled the area.”
Coppola reported that Gaines had made an inconsistent statement, “changing it several times before he finally stated a series of events that were akin to the victim's statement.”
The victim completed a sworn statement testifying to Gaines’ attack.
Gaines’ bond is set at $50,000.
Gaines made a motion to reduce his bond on Wednesday. The motion states Gaines cannot afford the current bond.
The bond motion states Gaines was employed at Mark’s Rib Steakhouse at the time of his arrest, and he previously worked at Shands.
Gaines’ bond motion will be heard on January 22.
