McDonald's Employee Detained for Public Masturbation; Escapes GPD, Arrested Months Later
Update Oct 23: The hearing for the bond reduction motion referenced in this article was changed from a bond reduction hearing to a plea hearing. Evans was found guilty of indecent exposure on September 24 and sentenced to 106 days in prison and two years of probation.
On May 15, Gainesville Police Department (GPD) Officer Willie Williams responded to Centric on 34th Apartments due to a McDonalds employee publicly materbating in front of a resident’s Ring camera.
Williams reported he reviewed the footage with GPD Corporal Owen Osborne and discovered Tyrall Torrecella Evans, 23, touching himself while in a McDonalds uniform.
Osborne caught up with Evans in a stairway and called Williams for backup.
Williams reported that Evans had the same scar as the suspect in the video. Williams also reported that Evans was no longer in McDonald's uniform but was wearing the same boxers.
When Williams went to arrest Evans, he ran away. Williams tried to tase him, but it didn’t work. The officers lost sight of Evans as he ran through a parking lot.
Williams reported that he spoke with a resident who initially said Evans lived at the Centric before saying he didn't, stating she wouldn't provide personal information about him because they were friends. Williams described her as “uncooperative.”
The manager of the McDonalds off 34th St. and Williston Road confirmed to GPD that Evans worked there.
Evans was initially charged with prowling via sworn complaint, but it was dropped before he was arrested.
Evans was arrested on September 11 and charged with indecent exposure and resisting an officer without violence.
Evans’ bond is set at $50,000.
Evans has made a motion to reduce his bond. The court will hear the motion tomorrow.
The motion states that Evans has "lifetime ties to the State of Florida, and if released, will reside at Grace MarketPlace. The Defendant promises to maintain contact with counsel, to abide by all orders of the court, and attend all required court appearances."
GnvInfo reached out to Grace MarketPlace to see if they'll confirm if Evans will be residing at the location if released.
Grace MarketPlace Program Administrator Nat Nandelstadt responded and said, "All of our guests are protected by HIPAA laws, therefore we cannot confirm or deny if someone is currently receiving services at GRACE or if they've received services in the past.... I’d like to add that GRACE shelter beds are available on a first-come, first-served basis. We do not coordinate placement in shelter beds with any outside party, including the Public Defenders office."
