Minnesota Man Booked in Alachua County After Threatening to Kill Sister and Her Dogs
A Minnesota man, Mitchell Kenneth Baran, 34, was booked into the Alachua County Jail on Sunday and charged with intimidation and larceny after he threatened to kill his sister after temporarily living with her in Gainesville.
The sworn complaint states that on May 18, Baran’s sister kicked him out of the house due to a domestic disturbance. In the afternoon the following day, Baran sent several graphic text messages to his sister, saying that he would kill her and describing how he would do it.
At 1:53 pm, Baran showed up in her backyard and forcefully removed a security camera from her house and took it, granting him the larceny charge.
After he took the camera, Baran sent more threatening messages, saying he was going back to Minnesota but would return to kill his sister’s dogs and her.
Baran was arrested in Minnesota on June 20 and extradited to Alachua County.
Baran has been given no bond, and the State Attorney’s Office intends to file a motion of pre-trial detention.
