Ocala National Guardsman Arrested for Domestic Battery in Gainesville

Tyrique Lamont De’Shawn Gates, 22, was arrested on April 6 and charged with domestic battery. 

Gates and the victim were in a verbal argument due to the victim wanting to go outside while he was playing a video game. 

When the victim came back inside Gates reportedly grabbed her by the arm and held her down on her bed. Gates took the victim’s phone when he saw one of her family members was calling her. When the victim asked for her phone back Gates threw it, striking her in the lip. 

The victim had bruising on her arm and a swollen lip. 

Gates reportedly told police he “was not attempting to harm the victim by holding her down” and “was only trying to ask her questions in order to diffuse the verbal altercation.” Gates said he struck the victim with the phone by accident.

Gates was released on recognizance. 

Gate's arrest report states he resides in Ocala.

Gates’ first appearance order states he is employed with the National Guard.
