Editor’s Notes: The full Body Worn Camera (BWC) footage is in a public Google Drive folder here.
At 12:20 p.m. Thursday, November 7, Santa Fe College Police Department (SFPD) Officers Christopher Davis and Anthony Manibusan were waiting outside of B-21 Northwest Campus to investigate a tip they received on Jordan Tucker having firearms in his bag.
Davis commented on a student who walked by, calling her a “disgruntled Kamala supporter.”
Davis said he was “watching videos on Twitter of people having mental breakdowns,” likely in reference to Kamala Harris supporters reacting to Donald Trump’s election.
Manibusan said “oh yeah” and “of course” in response.
Davis then says, “What’s also great, I bet the freakin’ suicide hotlines have been freaking packed” and laughs.
Suicide prevention organization the Trevor Project reported that they saw an increase of 700% the day following Donald Trump's election.
Davis appears to refer to Kamala Harris supporters as “insane.”
Manibusan makes a comment in response, but his exact statement wasn’t made out.
Davis says, “Oh yeah. The media and everybody think it's Hitler; it’s the end of the world.”
Davis goes on to say, “A sad generation is coming.”
Manibusan makes a comment about the future, but his exact statement wasn’t made out. Davis refers to the future as “bleak.”
Manisuban asked Davis if he had any plans for the weekend. He did not.
A few minutes later, Tucker walked down the stairs, and Davis asked for his name.
Tucker says, "Yes, sir.”
The officers ask if they can speak with Tucker and tell him he’s not in trouble. Tucker was in trouble.
The officers took Tucker into a stairwell.
Tucker said, “Last class, some of my peers were asking where I work, and I told them I work at Harry Beckwith’s.”
Manibusan said they got a tip that Tucker was carrying guns around campus.
Tucker denied the allegation.
Manibusan asked to check Tucker’s bag.
Tucker said, “Wait, wait, wait, fuck fuck fuck fuck, hang on. I’m so sorry, hang on. I’m gonna get into a lot of trouble. I know that. I need to take this back. I’m so sorry sir.”
Manibusan told him to put the bag down.
Tucker put the bag down, and Manibusan arrested him.
Tucker said, “Being around guns all the time, I’m used to having them just, kind of like having a knife in your pocket.”
Tucker explained where the guns in his bag were located and offered to lie on the floor. The officers said he could keep standing. Tucker consented to a search.
Davis perp walked Tucker to the west-side of the B building and placed him on a golf cart. Lieutenant Mark Barley drove Tucker, Manibusan and Davis to the station.
After they got to the station, Tucker said the guns were his and restated that he works at a gun store.
Barley asked Tucker why he told people he was carrying guns in his bag. Tucker said he didn’t and just said he worked at a gun store. Tucker said, “I guess people like to assume” and “I kind of figured this would happen at some point.”
Tucker said, “With all this political stuff, it's not the first time someone assumed I had guns in my bag. It happened last semester.”
Davis said, “The thing is, it looks bad; it's 2024. We go into your backpack; gloves, two guns, magazines.”
Manibusan informed Tucker he was going to jail, and Tucker was surprised, saying, “Shit, really?”
Barley said, “What do you mean,'shit really?’ It's a felony.”
Tucker asked if he’d be allowed back at Santa Fe College. Manibusan said he couldn’t speak to that and that the administration would have to make that call.
Davis said, “It's a felony; you can’t carry on campus. It’s 2024.”
Barley told Tucker that the Federal Bureau of Investigation would be looking into him.
“Holy shit,” said Tucker.
“What do you think happens when you bring two loaded firearms to a college campus?” asked Barley.
Tucker said he was aware the gloves “didn’t look good.”
Barley said it would look bad even if there weren’t gloves.
Tucker signed a consent to search form for his bedroom.
Tucker asked again if he’d be allowed on campus, and Manibusan said, “At the moment, probably not.”
Manibusan said that Santa Fe College would be in contact with Tucker.
