Santa Fe College Police Arrest Student for Possessing Guns at Northwest Campus; Released on Bond Same Day
Updated Nov 9 | SFPD released a statement on this incident the same day it occurred.
GnvInfo mistakenly requested a statement from Santa Fe College executives and City Commissioner/Santa Fe College Police Chief Ed Book before realizing a statement had already been published.
Santa Fe College doesn’t specify that one of Tucker’s guns was loaded and that he had a mask and gloves in his bag. Santa Fe College said there was “no threat found.”
Santa Fe College hasn’t updated their statement to reflect Tucker’s release.
Jordan James Tucker, 21, was arrested on Thursday and charged with possession of a firearm on school property.
Santa Fe College Police Department (SFPD) Officer Christopher Davis reported the following in Tucker’s arrest report:
“On [November 5], an anonymous tip came in via online reporting that a student identified as Jordan Tucker has been carrying a firearm with him in his backpack while attending classes on the Santa Fe College NW campus. A search of Tucker's class schedule revealed that he would be attending classes at [12:30 p.m.] on [November 7] located in Building-B. Myself and Sgt. Manibusan responded to the classroom and made contact with Tucker as he was walking into the building. Tucker was informed of the accusation and was asked if we could conduct a search of his bag. Tucker responded "fuck" and advised he may have something in his backpack. Tucker agreed to talk with us prior to being read his Miranda Rights.
Post Miranda, read by Sgt. [Tony] Manibusan, Tucker waived his right to speak with us but spontaneously uttered that he had two firearms in his backpack that he forgot to remove before attending class. Tucker was then detained (handcuffed double locked and checked for safety fit) by Sgt. Manibusan. Tucker advised that he works at the Harry Beckwith gun store and sells firearms. Tucker claimed that he had recently been at gun snow in Miami and forgot to take two personal firearms out of his backpack. A search of his bag revealed two 9MM handguns, a mask and gloves. Both firearms are 9mm Sig Sauers, one being a P938 loaded with seven rounds with one round chambered and the other P320 unloaded but 2 fully loaded extended magazines with 24 rounds each were located in his backpack as well. Tucker was advised he was under arrest per FSS: 790.06 (12) (A9), possession of a firearm on school grounds. Tucker was transported to SFPD for further processing.
Photos were taken of the firearms and the weapons were placed into evidence at the Santa Fe College Police Department. A criminal history check was transported to the Alachua County Jail without incident. Body camera footage is available.”
Tucker was released after posting a $2,500 bond the same day he was arrested. The Alachua County Department of Jail told GnvInfo that Tucker was released at 9:29 p.m. on Thursday.
