Senior Virginia Tech Designer Arrested for Domestic Battery
Vivek Durgam, 34, was arrested last week and charged with domestic battery.
On November 27, Alachua County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the incident, and the victim initially told them she fell and hit her head.
The victim later disclosed that she hit her head because Durgam slapped her while he was driving, forcing her to jump out of the moving car to escape. The victim hit her head on the curb.
Deputy Alexis Nelson reports that Durgam “exhibited multiple nervous indicators while making this post-Miranda statement to me such as avoiding eye contact and shakiness of the voice.”
Durgam claimed the victim slapped him.
Durgam “had no visible injuries to verify his statements,” reports Nelson.
Durgam’s first appearance order states he’s been employed at Virginia Tech University for eight years.
Durgam’s LinkedIn account states he’s a senior user experience designer for digital platforms at Virginia Tech’s hybrid program, indicating he worked remotely.
Durgam was released after posting a $25,000 bond. He’s been ordered to not contact the victim or possess any weapons.
