Several Gainesville Shooting Investigations Still Open
On Sep 12, 2023, multiple incident reports on previously reported shootings were retrieved again in order to check their case status. Out of the seven reports requested, six are still open investigations. Five of these shootings resulted in injuries or deaths.
Sweetwater Apartments Shooting:
On June 10th, 2023, two people were injured in a drive-by shooting at Sweetwater Apartments. At one point the UF Police Department had eyes on the suspect’s vehicle, however, they lost sight of them while the suspect was speeding at 70 miles per hour. The suspect later abandoned the vehicle around Pine Ridge and fled on foot. As of this writing, this is an open investigation and no arrests have been made.
Archstone Luxury Apartments Shooting:
On June 17th, 2023, a man was injured in a drive-by shooting at Archstone Luxury Apartments. Police later got a call from a resident at Archstone Apartments saying they saw someone run behind a car and drive off. As of this writing, this is an open investigation and no arrests have been made.
Lincoln Estates Shooting:
On July 7th, 2023, callers at Lincoln Estates advised hearing around a dozen shots in the area. Several vehicles were struck by bullets in this drive-by shooting. Callers reported it sounded like two guns were being fired. No report indicates any victims of gunshot wounds from this incident. A white two-door car with no lights was seen leaving the area with callers reporting that it was being chased by a white four-door car with lights on. As of this writing, this is an open investigation and no arrests have been made.
Duval Heights:
On July 7th, 2023, just minutes after the shooting at Lincoln Estates, another shooting occurred at Duval Heights. Two victims sustained gunshot wounds in this incident. No suspect information was provided by GPD. As of this writing, this is an open investigation and no arrests have been made.
Woodland Park Shooting:
On August 10, 2023, a shooting occurred at Woodland Park apartments, resulting in a teenage victim who died from a gunshot wound. D’Angelo Latrell Deed, 20, was arrested and charged with one count of murder and one count of robbery. Although an arrest was made in this investigation, it is not closed. Reports on this incident have been sealed by the Clerk of Court. The following statement from the Clerk of Court was received from GPD records on September 12.
"Releasing information contained in the mittimus would be detrimental to this investigation. The investigation in this case is ongoing, and disclosure of the information contained in the mittimus would compromise the investigation."
Highland Court Manor Shooting:
Update Oct 20: Patterson has been arrested.
On August 29, 2023, GPD responded to a woman who had been shot in the neighborhood of Highland Court Manor. Investigation revealed that it was an incident of dating violence when Jalen Bernard Kelsey Patterson, 28, shot his ex-girlfriend after she was in a car with a male friend. Patterson attempted to rob and shoot her friend before leaving the scene, however, the gun reportedly jammed.
