Shooting in Pine Ridge Leads to One Arrest
On April 28, at 12:05 pm, Gainesville Police Department (GPD) officers responded to Pine Ridge neighborhood after receiving calls of a person shot.
Jayvonta Emanuel Williams, 30, was arrested for the shooting and charged with attempted murder of the first degree at 9:37 pm the next day.
Officers found the victim lying on the ground in a house with a gunshot wound to the chest, and he was transported to the Shands emergency room.
Law enforcement was informed by a healthcare worker that a portion of the bullet entered the victim’s left lung while another part of it went fully through his back.
Witnesses told officers that the shooting resulted from an argument that stemmed from the victim taking William’s things on a prior day.
One witness told officers that Williams was cutting hair at a residence in Pine Ridge when the victim walked up and began antagonizing Williams over the things that he took. They walked outside and the witness reportedly heard a single shot, followed by the victim slumping into the apartment after the two men went outside.
The following day, Williams turned himself into GPD. During his police interview, he said that he and the victim had gotten into an altercation.
The arrest form reads, “They were just outside of the front door and were standing about 10 to 15 feet apart. He does not recall if the victim had anything in his hands. He gave the victim a warning to stay back. The victim proceeded towards him; he took a step back and then fired one single shot at the victim with his firearm.”
Williams has a pending domestic battery case along with one felony and one misdemeanor adjudication. He currently has no bond, and the Florida State Attorney's Office plans to file a motion for pre-trial detention.
