Shots Fired at Dee’s Liquor; GPD Requests Help Finding Suspect
On July 12 at 11:50 pm a shooting occurred at Dee’s Liquor’s (1030 SE 4th Ave.)
A vehicle with multiple occupants reportedly shot into a crowd of people standing outside of the store.
The Gainesville Police (GPD) hasn’t made any arrests. This morning they asked the public for help in obtaining information about a suspected vehicle and locating any suspects.
GPD believes the suspects were occupying a black Cadillac SRX pictured in the press release below.
GPD asked people with information to call Corporal Matthew Quinn at 352-339-0506.
Quinn was one of the GPD officers who in 2016 along with ACSO officers pulled their guns and killed 16-year-old Robert Desmond because he was threatening to kill himself with a replica gun.
According to an article by News4Jax Quinn was not certified in crisis intervention training at the time. The article described a witness video that showed Desmond walking into an occupied apartment building with the fake gun and being told by officers that he would be shot if he didn’t stop. The officers fatally wounded Desmond and he died soon after in the hospital.
Cpl. Quinn was promoted in 2021 according to an Alachua Chronicle article and he was awarded with Officer of the Month last October.
