Elijah Luis Montanez, 23, was arrested on March 4 and charged with simple battery.

The arrest report states Montanez approached the victim and began yelling at her. As the victim walked away, Montanez reportedly punched her in the head and continued hitting her after she fell to the ground.

Montanez was pulled off the victim by bystanders, one of whom began punching him.

Gainesville Police Department Officer Steven Blundell reported that nobody at the scene, including Montanez, would provide information on who punched him.

Montanez’s bond is set at $5,000.

On Friday, Montanez made a motion to reduce his bond. The motion states that if released, Montanez will “reside at the Salvation Army and intends to work at McDonald's on East University Avenue.”

Judge Susan Miller-Jones denied the motion on Tuesday.
