Street Lamp Studios Owner and UF Health Employee Arrested for Battery Against Elderly Mother

Eli B. Kaplan, 39, was arrested on Friday and charged with battery on an elderly person.
Gainesville Police Department Officer Michael Hall reported the following:
“[Kaplan] arrived home and began yelling at the victim when she greeted him with ‘hello.’ [Kaplan] approached the victim within a few inches of her face yelling he ‘hated his life.’ While [Kaplan] yelled at the victim he actually and intentionally grabbed the left bicep area of [her] against her will and she had to push him away. I saw slight bruising and redness to the area the victim said she was grabbed. The victim is the 73 year old mother of [Kaplan] and they currently reside together. Post-Miranda,[Kaplan] refused to answer questions and denied that any of the victim’s statements had occurred saying [she] is bruised all over because she has dementia.”
Kaplan’s first appearance order states he is employed with UF Health (Shands).
Kaplan was released after posting a $75,000 bond.
Kaplan has been ordered to not contact the victim or possess any weapons.
Kaplan is the founder and owner of local recording studio Street Lamp Studios.
Kaplan also owns local jewelry business Florida Jewels.
